lightsabers

The lightsaber is the weapon of the Jedi Knights. It consists of a handle about a foot long, which creates a solid blade of light about 4 feet long. The blade is capable of slicing through anything it touches. A Jedi can even use it to deflect blaster fire.

Obi-Wan Kenobi said the lightsaber is “… not as clumsy or random as a blaster, an elegant weapon of a more civilized age”.

The lightsabers were fun to create. Once again I was able to use the properties of paper colored differently on both sides to add depth to the figure. Next came the dilemma. There are two styles of light sabers used in the original Trilogy. Vader’s red and Luke’s blue saber have angled blade emitters. Obi-Wan’s blue and Luke’s green saber have emitters which look more like satellite dishes. Then along comes Darth Maul’s double ended version, and Count Dooku’s pisto grip. I didn’t want to put separate chapters in the book for each one because the difference between them are only one or two folds. Yet I didn’t want to exclude any of them. In the end I decided to lay them out side by side. It works well in the book and now I can sleep at night.

If you ever find yourself on the wrong end of a lightsaber, it’s best to be sure the wielder is friendly. The woman in the picture is Nina Fallon who played Jedi Master Stass Allie in Revenge of the Sith. She loves to meet and talk with the fans and got a big kick out of the lightsaber I made for her.

Make your own lightsabers. A Youtube tutorial for the Vader’s, Luke’s, Obi Wan’s, Darth Maul’s, and Count Dooku’s sabers can be found here.
