D-O: “I am D-O”
D-O was a shy little droid once owned by a Jedi hunter called Ochi. Ochi met an unfortunate end on Pasaana, leaving little D-O onboard the Bestoon Legacy where he eventually ran out of power. He was reactivated by BB-8 with whom he bonded, but his obvious distrust of human contact caused Rey to note that it… “Looks like someone treated him badly.” Luckily for him, the Resistance had more respect for droids than Sith assassins.
D-O was introduced to the world at Star Wars Celebration 2019. I was one of the lucky people to see him roll out on stage and instantly capture the hearts of the audience. I started trying to figure out how I could make the little droid with just a square piece of paper, while keeping it simple enough for a novice to make. I discovered the answer is…. I couldn’t. But the problem can be solved by cutting the square into two equal rectangles.
In the origami world we call this a compound model.
