T-47 Snowspeeder
During the evacuation of Hoth, the Rebels used snowspeeders to delay the imperial assault. These were modified T-47 airspeeders adapted to the extreme cold of the ice planet. The T-47 is a light, fast, two man atmospheric craft designed for speed. They’re equipped with 2 laser cannons and a rear facing harpoon gun. The rebels quickly discovered the cannons didn’t have enough power to piece the AT-AT armor, and resorted to the harpoon gun to entangle the walker’s legs.
When I started making my own origami designs, a snowspeeder was one of the first things I tried. Unfortunately, I lacked the skill and experience to create something so ‘complex’. 20 years later, I was re-watching the Empire Strikes Back on its 40th anniversary. Just as the Battle of Hoth began, I found myself thinking about an origami snowspeeder and started folding. Before the movie was over, I had finished this ‘simple’ model.
